'Give Burns the Boot' by Donating this Weekend

Barrow County Emergency Services is collecting donations May 20 and 28 to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Barrow residents can "Give Burns the Boot" this weekend by donating to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

is one of more than 100 departments statewide joining forces to support the foundation, which partners with the fire service and burn care community to provide fire safety and prevention education, supports medical facilities and assists burn survivors in their recovery.

"Fires and burn injuries can strike anyone at any time," Lt. Ernest Weant, who is chairing the fundraising project in Barrow County, said in a news release. "The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation is working to help prevent fire-related injuries and deaths through education. In addition, the foundation supports the burn centers in Georgia to allow them to offer the best possible treatment for the patients."

Ten percent of the total dollar amount Barrow County Emergency Services raises will be returned to the department for local fire safety and burn education efforts.
