Former Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy from Auburn Arrested in Morgan County

An incident involving the transport of a female inmate leads to the arrest of a former Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy.

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy from Auburn has resigned after being charged with sexually assaulting a prisoner he was transporting, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

Harry Breitinger was charged with sexual assault upon a person in custody, aggravated sexual battery, violation of oath of office, and furnishing contraband to an inmate, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The Morgan County Citizen, citing Lt. Mark Williams of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, reported that Breitinger, 50, of Auburn, is accused of assaulting a female prisoner while transporting her from Richmond County to the Gwinnett County Adult Detention Center in Lawrenceville.

Breitinger is accused of stopping at a rest stop on I-20 on June 3, offering the prisoner a cigarette, then committing sexual battery, the paper reported.

Several jurisdictions cooperated in investigating the case. Breitinger is being held without bond in the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office public safety complex, according to the news release.
