Firefighters Respond to Structure Fires

Firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services responded to three fires over the past three days.

At 3:12 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a fire in the 1200 block of Harmony Grover Church Road.

“First arriving firefighters found fire showing through the roof of a double wide trailer,” Lt. Scott Dakin, public information officer, said in a news release. “Crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and were able to bring it under control quickly.”

Engines 4 and 5, Ladder 7, Med 5 and Battalion 1 responded. The structure was heavily damaged as a result of the fire and two adults were displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Just before 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 382 Carl Cedar Hill Road.

Firefighters found fire showing from a double-wide trailer and quickly brought the blaze under control.

Engines 4 and 5, Med 4 and 5 and Battalion 1 responded.

The Fire Investigation Team determined the cause of the fire was ignition of combustible materials in an ashtray. Four adults and one child were displaced as a result. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family.

At 10:33 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, communication officers received another 911 call reporting a fire in the 2000 block of Corbin Road. Engine 1 was dispatched and found an area of a garage that had suffered fire damage. The homeowner had extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived.

The Fire Investigation Team determined the fire started in flowerpots that were placed against the garage. Investigators said the cause of the fire was spontaneous combustion of the plants and planting soil, which when ignited spread to the vinyl siding of the home.
