Emergency Services Personnel Participate in Helicopter Crash Training Drill

Multiple agencies participated in the recent training drill at the Barrow County Airport.

A member of the Georgia Army National Guard made the 911 call that started a recent training drill involving a simulated helicopter crash.

Barrow County Emergency Services staff, deputies with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office and the Barrow County Airport Authority responded and worked the scene.

“It was a simulated military helicopter crash with three patients in the helicopter,” Emergency Management Coordinator Penny Clack said in a news release.

The drill was set up as an opportunity for military and civilian public safety personnel to work together in a simulated emergency.

“Previous training conducted between agencies aided in emergency responders being able to mitigate the emergency scene without any issues,” Clack said. “This type of training drills allows us to improve cooperation between various agencies and ensure that our emergency plans are current and workable."
