Emergency Personnel Battle Multiple Fires over Past Week

About 200 calls were handled by firefighters and EMTs with Barrow County Emergency Services.

Barrow County Emergency Services responded to multiple fires and accidents from March 18 through 24.

A total of 3,155 calls were handled by communication officers through the dispatch center. Of those calls, 1,473 came through the 911 lines, which resulted in 1,193 calls being dispatched. Of those, 201 calls were handled by firefighters and EMTs with the department. Here are brief summaries of a few of those incidents:

  • At 9:19 p.m. March 20, firefighters responded to a residential structure fire. The vacant house was a total loss. Engine 3, Engine 1, Truck 7,  Med 3, and Battalion 1 all responded.
  • At 4:20 p.m. March 21, communication officers received a report of a traffic accident at the intersection of Ga. Highway 211 and Dee Kennedy Road. Engine 5 and Med 5 responded. One person was transported to an area hospital.
  • At 3:38 p.m. March 22, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident on Ga. Highway 53 near Jackson Trail Road. Med 3 responded and found a vehicle off the roadway in the woods. Two people were transported to an area hospital.
  • At 4:54 p.m. March 22, communication officers received a 911 call reporting a woods fire at an address on Jones Road. Engine 1 and Med 1 arrived on scene to find the fire had spread to an out an outbuilding and two vehicles. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
  • At 5:29 p.m. March 22, communication officers dispatched Engine 6, Med 6, Engine 3 and Battalion 1 to a structure fire on Akins Road. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters made a quick interior attack and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
