Deputies Respond to Reports of Burglaries, Property Damage, Suspicious Activity and More

The following information was taken from incident reports from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are summaries of recent incidents or calls for assistance to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded.

Driving carefully with no license

On Jan. 1, 2013, a man who was traveling 43 mph in a 65 mph zone on Ga. Highway 316 told a deputy he was driving slowly because his friend told him to drive carefully because he didn’t have a license. Jimmy Bonilla-Alvarado, 30, of Norwalk, Conn., was arrested and charged with driving without a license and window tint violation.

Resident says satellite TV rep damaged yard

A Nunnally Road resident reported Jan. 2, 2013, that a satellite TV representative had damaged his property. The Winder resident said the representative had completed work on the home satellite and was leaving when his vehicle got stuck trying to back out the driveway. The resident told a deputy the rep drove around the exterior of his lawn and circled back around to the front before waving goodbye. After the representative left, the resident said he found deep ruts all the way around his yard and had contacted the satellite service provider.

Selling Febreeze?

A Winder resident told a deputy Jan. 2, 2013, that a white male about 25 to 35 years old came to his home holding a bottle of Febreeze. The resident told the man he was not interested in buying anything and closed the door. After asking his neighbors if the man had visited their homes, the resident called the sheriff’s office.

Guitars, cigars reported stolen

A reported burglary Jan. 2, 2013, at a Hunting Trace residence in Winder resulted in the theft of 100 miscellaneous cigars valued at $750, two guitars valued at $400 and $700 respectively, and other items, all totaling $3,000, according to an incident report.

Personal care home burglarized

On Jan. 2, 2013, an employee at a Winder personal care home reported the residence had been burglarized, although nothing appeared to have been taken.

Five warning shots

On Jan. 3, 2013, a deputy parked at the First Baptist Church of Carl heard five gunshots coming from the area of Fred Kilcrease Road in Auburn. The deputy had just come from a residence in reference to an alarm call. Returning to the residence, the deputy found the property owner in the backyard holding a gun. The owner said a man had just ran through his back yard and he grabbed his gun and fired five shots into the ground to scare off the intruder. Despite a search of the area, no suspect was found.
