Barrow County Firefighters Purchase New Equipment with Grant

The department has installed new chain saws, quick-cut saws, positive pressure fans and multi-gas monitors on all firefighting apparatus.

A grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has allowed firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services to purchase new equipment.

The department was able to put new chain saws, quick-cut saws, positive pressure fans and multi-gas monitors on all firefighting apparatus. The chain saws and quick-cut saws are used in many areas of ventilation as well as search and rescue efforts. The positive pressure fans are used to remove smoke during and after a fire, allowing the firefighters to better perform firefighting efforts. Multi-gas monitors give firefighters the ability to monitor deadly gas buildups not only in fire situations but in other emergencies as well.

“We want to recognize Firefighter Jeff Jones for leading the efforts in securing this funding,” Lt. Scott Dakin, public information officer, said in a news release. “We also want to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for the generous grant award that allowed us to receive this new equipment.”
