Customer Walks Out of Store Without Paying for Chainsaw

A man walked out of Tractor Supply in Winder carrying a chainsaw he had not paid for, according to a Barrow County Sheriff's Office incident report. 

An employee said she was standing at a register Oct. 19, when a male customer approached her holding a chainsaw and asked what it would cost, including tax. After she informed him of the price, she told the man she would check the back of the store for the item in a box. When she returned to the register, the customer was no longer there. 

Upon reviewing surveillance video, the employee said she watched the man leave the store with the chainsaw, having never paid for the item. When the responding deputy watched the video, the man was observed waiting at the front of the store for a short time after the employee went to the back before walking out the front entrance. The chainsaw was valued at $270. 

The following are summaries of other recent incidents or calls to which Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded.

Sunday, Oct. 21 

• Deputies were serving a Clarke County misdemeanor warrant at a Bethlehem business and met with a manager, who advised he would bring the subject to the security building. According to an incident report, a deputy waited about 10 minutes before asking a security officer to be escorted to the area where the subject worked and then observed a man that appeared to be on the phone. The subject, identified as the individual for which the warrant had been issued, began to run toward the wood line close to Smith Mill Road, and deputies pursued. Courtney Tramain Johnson, 28, of Athens was arrested and charged with obstruction or hindering law enforcement. 
• A resident of Arrow Hatchee Drive in Winder reported hearing a noise and seeing a shadowy figure at the back corner of her house. The complainant said it appeared to be a person wearing dark colored clothing who ran toward the street. The resident requested additional patrols when available. 
• A resident of Abbygale Way in Winder reported an air conditioning unit was stolen from her residence. The value of the unit was estimated at $2,000. 
• An accident at the intersection of Ga. Highway 316 east and Ga. Highway 11 resulted in the arrest of Joseph Anthony Irizarry, 50, of Lawrenceville, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license and defective or insufficient brakes. 
• A complainant reported a set of tires was stolen off the driver’s side rear axel of the tractor-trailer he drives. The man said the vehicle was parked on the side of Foster Road. 
• A deputy was dispatched to the area of Pearl Pentecost Road and Carl Cedar Hill Road in reference to a suspicious vehicle unattended on the side of the road with the door open. The deputy found the vehicle had been stripped and it appeared all of the car audio, including the in-dash stereo, and all the speakers from inside the vehicle were missing. The deputy found papers inside the vehicle and contacted the individual to which the vehicle was registered. When the deputy asked the individual if he knew where his vehicle was, he responded, ""I am trying to figure that out right now." The vehicle was towed and the owner, a Dacula resident, was advised to file a report with Gwinnett County Police. 

Saturday, Oct. 20 

• A resident of Amber Way in Winder reported someone slashed a new tire on a vehicle in her driveway sometime Oct. 13 or 14. 
• A Winder resident called 911 after hearing what she described as loud shots while standing in her kitchen. A deputy who responded to the Paige Way residence couldn't locate anyone shooting in the area. 
• Anthony Eugene Hammond of 301 B Russell Cemetery Road in Winder was arrested Oct. 20 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license suspended or revoked after a deputy observed the man's vehicle parked in the driveway of an unoccupied residence on Manning Gin Road. 

Friday, Oct. 19 

• A resident of Than Skinner Road in Winder reported hearing something run away from his house and asked a deputy to check the area for anyone suspicious. The complainant said he had arrived home and found his dogs barking and behaving aggressively. The man said he then activated an alarm on one of his vehicles that turned on the headlights, and while he did not see anyone, he heard something run away. 
• A man reported a Ford truck had driven through his yard and grass and onto his driveway on Oct. 19. The vehicle reportedly took off up the driveway and onto Ga. Highway 124 before the resident could get a better description or confront the driver. 
• A deputy was present during the firing of a Walmart employee at the request of management after the employee reportedly made the statement that she would “slash the managers throats," according to an incident report. The former employee was served with a notice of prohibited entry before leaving the store.
