“No one enjoys thinking about large scale disasters and unexpected events,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Penny Clack in a released statement. “However, the reality is that disasters can and do happen right here is Barrow County. The good news is you have the ability to help your family make it safely through natural disasters, pandemic outbreaks and terrorist’s attacks by preparing today.”
September is National Preparedness Month and officials encourage citizens to take the following steps to prepare for a natural or manmade disaster:
- Create a ready kit with emergency supplies.
- Sign up to receive weather alerts at home and at work.
- Develop a disaster preparedness plan with specific information regarding how to contact family members if separated during a disaster.
