Arrest Made in Winder Arson Case

Charge stems from an August fire in a downtown building.

Winder Police have identified the suspect in an Aug. 22 fire in downtown Winder.

Police obtained a warrant against Brandy May Rowley, 30, on a charge of first-degree arson.

According to police, an anonymous 911 caller alerted authorities to the fire in the North Broad Street building.

"Upon arrival, the police and fire department did not observe any smoke coming from the building but they did locate what appeared to be an intentionally set fire in the basement of the building," WPD public information officer Chris Cooper said in a released statement. "A captain with the Winder Fire Department noted that some bamboo had been stacked on a table in the basement and appeared to have been set on fire."

The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.

"Winder Police detectives were able to pursue leads which developed Rowley as a suspect," Cooper added.

Rowley turned herself in at the Barrow County Detention Center on Dec. 9.
