Should hurt a little.

Have a plaque on the wall by my bedroom door so I can see it every day. "Stupid Should Hurt". A friendly daily reminder to myself to be aware of the consequences of my foolish actions, hazardous surroundings, or  making assumptions every day. I am stinging a bit right now. Allow me to share the reasons for my current discomfort. As with most of us over 55 and still gainfully employed citizens, the amount of time available for us to perform certain civic duties can be somewhat limited if we wish to stay gainfully employed. And family time is too precious to be squandered. So here comes the burn. May 5th I received an announcement by mail from Barrow Co Board of Elections & Registration informing us of  polling location changes and early voting schedule. M-F, 4/28-5/16, 9am-5pm, and Sat 5/16(?), 9am-4pm. Family plans were already made for weekend of 5/10-11,(keep in mind that notification was not received until 5/5), so Sat 5/17 is my only option to vote early in person(absentee ballot still available apon request). So bright and early at 9 this morning I arrive at specified site to perform my civic duty, only to be greeted by locked doors on an empty building. After about 10 min wait I call office number listed on polling change announcement I happened to have with me.  Shortly after leaving the facility at 233 E. Broad St., and a message for the Elections Supervisor Monica Franklin, she returned my call. She was quite pleasant, professional, and apologetic while explaining the erroneous announcement I had received on the 5th. She said the announcement had been reviewed by 4 different members of the board(maybe why it was almost two weeks late?) before going out, and not one noticed the dating error( does this mean that we have officials who cannot/ do not read the public documents they are responsible for?) She also stated that the error had been brought to their attention much earlier, so the  local radio stations and newspapers were announcing corrected dates and times.  So, here I sit stinging because I assumed the error of 5/16 was meant to be 5/17( instead of 5/10). I am stinging a little also since Barrow Patch is my primary source of local news and events. A quick search "polling dates", "polling changes" to see if I just overlooked the announcement last week revealed an article from 11/1/2012. Also couldn't help but noticing that Patch Events doesn't even mention Tuesday May 20th as General Primary? Doesn't Patch think that either of these two aforementioned public announcements should be newsworthy? Should hurt a little.
