SEC this Weekend: Mississippi State Challenges Alabama

Here's a look at the weekend's SEC action.

Don't look now, but Mississippi State is in the thick of the SEC title race.

The Bulldogs from Starkville, Miss., are unbeaten in the SEC at 3-0 as they prepare to travel to Tuscaloosa and Saturday's game with No. 1 Alabama (4-0 in SEC). Game time is 8:30 p.m., ESPN.

Mississippi State has enjoyed steady success under head coach Dan Mullen, a former University of Florida coach who took over in 2009. The team went to bowls in 2010 and 2011, and with seven wins overall in 2012, it is bowl-eligible again.

"It should be a great challenge for us playing a team that does not show many weaknesses," Mullen told The Tuscaloosa News. "They don't make many mistakes and do not turn the ball over. They pound on you and pound on you and wait for you to make a mistake as the game goes on. It should be a great challenge for our guys as we will have to play our best game of the year. Obviously going into a hostile environment should be a good challenge for us."
