Winder Local/Municipal Elections

Did you know that only 12.5% of the population of Winder votes in local/municipal elections?!?!

Of the 14,000 residents of Winder, only 7,000 are registered to vote, and only a quarter of those 7,000 vote in local elections.  That's 12.5%!  1,750 people!
For that reason, and many others, several of the Council members have not been opposed in their elections.  In the event that there is not a "race" there is no election for that Council seat.

There are pros and cons to having seniority on the Council, but I would argue that part of the democratic process of elections is that the residents have the right and responsibility vote, and citizens have the right and responsibility to run for office!

I am, by no means, a politician, and I am not pursing this role as a career.  I am, instead, hoping to stay involved in and contribute to the community I live in.  I am not running to kick someone off of the Council, I am running to GET ON IT!

If you would like to learn more about the Winder City Councilmen, please see the Winder City Council website at http://www.cityofwinder.com/index.aspx?page=53.

Also--if you are not registered to vote, YOU HAVE TIME!  The deadline to register to vote in the election on November 5 is OCTOBER 7.  You can find more information, and the application to register at http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/vrinfo.htm.

Whomever you choose to support--learn about the candidates, register to vote, MAKE A CHOICE, and VOTE!  Your opinion matters!
