'2 Guns' Duo Washington and Wahlberg Get Mostly Positive Reviews from Critics

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are two operatives from competing bureaus in this action film.

"2 Guns" is playing at Gateway Cinemas 12 in the BigD Experience at 12:15, 4:30, 7:15 and 9:45 on Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4.

The premise, courtesy of IMDb:

A DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. While fleeing, they learn the secret of their shaky alliance: Neither knew that the other was an undercover agent.

Here's what critics are saying:

Easily underestimated, '2 Guns' actually contains about 15 times more guns and roughly that many laughs. If somehow you've never admitted that Mark Wahlberg's hilarious, you're going to have to give in: He's having a blast in '2 Guns' and makes a lot of good lines great. —
Matt Pais, RedEye

There are more than a few explosions in '2 Guns,' but what really ignites this schlocky, good-natured action comedy are the easygoing performances from its charismatic lead actors. —
Adam Mazmanian

... the plot of '2 Guns' — filled as it is with multiple feints, dodges and mystifications — is so tricky that events all but evaporate as soon as they happen. Though individual set pieces are well done, the film inevitably leaves an empty taste behind it once it's done. —
Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg’s buddy action-comedy '2 Guns' is an unexpected dog-days-of-summer surprise. ... During a summer that has seen disappointing blockbuster after disappointing blockbuster, '2 Guns' proves to be a great snack in between disappointing meals. —
Justin Craig, FoxNews.com

Twisting and turning in a fluid manner, the 109 minute balanced story flashes charm, action, provocative storytelling, character development, and constant intrigue that is held up by the steadfast performances from all the integral players. —
Joe Belcastro, Examiner

Fun to watch but almost instantly forgettable,
is Hollywood's latest attempt to turn comic books into box-office gold. Boasting an enviable cast and a needlessly complicated plot, the movie works best during the easygoing banter between its two stars. — Daniel Eagan, Film Journal

2 Guns" is rated R for violence throughout, language and brief nudity. The movie runs 1 hour and 49 minutes.
