Winder’s Fort Yargo Living History Society Offers a Taste of History During its 'Thanksmas Feast'

The historically driven nonprofit organization is cooking up an 18th century-themed feast on Dec. 10.

Fort Yargo, a wildly popular Georgia State Park located in Winder, features campgrounds, picnic shelters, a disc golf course, 18 miles of scenic hiking trails and a 260-acre lake with beach and boat ramps.

It also boasts a rich history surrounding a 1792 log fort built by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee Indians. Dedicated to preserving that history — particularly that of the historically significant remains of the Humphries brothers’ trading post — is the Fort Yargo Living History Society.

The nonprofit organization was formed in hopes of providing an educational "Living History Presentation" for the public. The society regularly uses the site for historically accurate demonstrations and has hosted well-attended historically-themed events in the past, including the Fort Yargo Colonial Market Faire and, more recently, Autumn Nights.
