Volunteers Needed for RiversAlive Event in Braselton

Volunteers from the town of Braselton will join Barrow and Jackson counties to tidy up and beautify the shoreline along the Mulberry River on April 28.

Not only does the month of April celebrate National Volunteer Month, it also encompasses a local event in need of volunteers.

RiversAlive — Georgia’s annual waterway cleanup — is designed to create “awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia's water resources.”

On Saturday, April 28, the town of Braselton will team up with Barrow and Jackson counties to host a RiversAlive event to cleanup the shoreline and banks of the Mulberry River that runs through the area.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the Community Room at the back of the Braselton Police and Municipal Court building at 5040 Ga. Highway 53. While there, participants can sign in, pick up supplies and be placed in one of two groups. The groups will disperse to two separate locations along the Mulberry River.

Volunteers are welcome to bring their own supplies, such as pruning shears and work gloves. Mulberry River Walk may require some light trimming. When the cleanup has ended, volunteers will meet back at the Community Room about noon for pizza and beverages. For some added fun, prizes will be awarded for different categories of trash collected.
