Meet Barrow Patch Blogger Nicole Valles

My favorite blogs are anecdotal and I enjoy capturing life's crazy moments and the special ones that should be remembered but might not be if they aren't written.

Do you read the blogs on your local Patch? Blogging easy, free and open to everyone. In May, we are going to take some time to get to know local bloggers. This week we are featuring Nicole Valles, whose blogs may be found on Barrow Patch.

Nicole Valles describes herself as just an ordinary lady trying to do the best she can as a mommy, wife and working professional while dreaming of writing that book in her head and getting closer to the weight on her driver’s license. Here is what Valles shared with us in an email interview.

What is your educational background?
I am a proud Mountaineer, graduating from West Virginia University with a BS in Journalism. I focused on Broadcast News and worked as a television news producer in Savannah for six years. I started that job ten days after graduation and loved it. It just isn’t a mommy/daddy-friendly career choice. I’m now proud to work as a Web Content Editor.

Tell us a little about yourself, your interests, your accomplishments, what’s important to you…
I (unbelievably) won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for a newscast I produced while I was six months pregnant and my husband, Andrew, was deployed in Kosovo. I had our daughter, Nia, while he was in Iraq. Luckily, his job was to escort media so he was able to use a satellite phone to call me after I had her. Now, we also have a son (thankfully, Andrew was able to see his birth) and we all enjoy running, board games and sharing in daily adventures together.

What are your ties to the Barrow Patch? How did you become involved with blogging here?
As a Barrow County neighbor, I’m a fan of Barrow Patch because it captures an interesting mix of stories from our area and keeps me updated better than the other local sources. I requested to be a blogger because I have a passion for writing and wanted to contribute.

Why do you like to blog and what subjects are your favorites to write about?
I love to blog because I love to write. My favorite blogs are anecdotal and I enjoy capturing life’s crazy moments and the special ones that should be remembered but might not be if they aren’t written.

Do you have a favorite quotation?
"Get busy living, or get busy dying." - Andy Dufresne, character in The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” - Dr. Seuss
