Christmas in the City Kicks off Friday, Dec. 2

This month-long celebration is sponsored by the Barrow Preservation Society.

Throughout the month of December, the Barrow Preservation Society will celebrate the holiday season with a host of events and activities for residents.

Christmas in the City kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, with the event at the Robinson Building in downtown Winder. Tickets are $10 and the evening will include holiday music performed by the Yargo Community Concert Band, a first look at the Christmas in the City Holiday Market and Christmas Tree Garden and a preview of the , which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Hors d’oeuvres and a dessert bar featuring artisan cupcakes by Sinfully Delicious Desserts will be served along with beer, wine and soft drinks. The Robinson Building is located at 36 E. Athens St. on the corner of Athens and Jackson Streets in downtown Winder.

"Noels, Nibbles & Nogs will be great fun for those looking to explore what’s new for the holiday season in Barrow," said Helen Person, chair of the Barrow Preservation Society. "It’ll be a wonderful time to kick off what we hope will become the premiere Christmas event for Barrow County."

Following up Friday's event is the Christmas Tour of Homes. Tickets are $20 per person.

An all-inclusive Christmas in the City weekend pass is available for $25 per person. Advance tickets can be purchased at Strickland, Chesnutt & Lindsay at 76 W. Candler St. in Winder, or

Tickets may also be purchased during the Holiday Market at the Robinson Building. Proceeds from event tickets and market sales will benefit the Barrow Preservation Revolving Fund for local preservation projects.

The Holiday Market will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December through Christmas Eve and Person said local decorators and retailers will be offering furnishings and antiques, decorative accessories, holiday décor, gifts, toys, and garden accessories.
