Auburn Library Brings Friends and Family Together Through Upcoming Events

The local library will host a beginner's Facebook class and a family game night March 24.

This brave new world can be an intimidating one for those who are not techno-savvy.

Even the brightest of minds can have a difficult time distinguishing their “pokes” from their “tweets”. The thought of navigating this constantly evolving landscape may be nerve-wracking for many, but in doing so, they may well open doors they believe had been shut long ago, reach friends they have not communicated with in years and meet family they didn’t even know existed.

Love it or hate it, it appears Facebook is here to stay. That’s why the is hosting a beginner’s Facebook class at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24. Designed to give newbies a clearer understanding of this popular social media tool, the class will teach attendees the basics of setting up a Facebook account, establishing a profile and protecting their personal information securely. This class is intended for personal Facebook accounts only.

Of course, ask any parent and they’ll likely tell you — it’s easy to feel disconnected from the people living under your very own roof. If you can echo that sentiment, than it’s likely you could benefit from family game night at the Auburn Library. Hosted on the same day — March 24 — Family Game Night begins at 5:30 and lasts until 7:30 p.m. and includes chances to test your skills at a Wii, a PS3, computer games and board games. The library supplies sodas and snacks, but guests are also welcome to bring a snack to share.

One other event taking place this week at the Auburn library that warrants mentioning is the Kids Art Club meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Mainly geared toward young aspiring artists ages 8 to 12, this event affords kids the opportunity to explore their creative side for just a $1 fee. Kids Art Club meets every Tuesday evening at the library at 6 p.m.
