Internet Sales Tax Isn't So Fair

The internet sales tax isn't so fair after all. It fails to address the real issue - the massive tax and regulatory burden on small businesses.

Saying this is a 'fairness' tax is a bit of a deception similar to using 'reform' after immigration when you're only granting amnesty.  Although I agree that internet sales hurt brick-and-mortar sales, they don't necessarily have to... In my way thinking, the problem is the tax code itself, and not necessarily how or whether it's applied to internet sales.  What about fair tax through simpler tax?  What abotu the 'fair tax' concept?

Besides, if you take a look at supporters of the legislation, it becomes interestingly clear that this is a collection of capitalist who are leveraging new laws to improve their respective margins.  Not that I fundamentally disagree, I'm just tired of giving more away to the large, bottomless pit of nothingness known as our current government.  These groups cannot get tax and regulatory pressure off of small business (>50% taxes from Uncle Sam), so they burn the consumers.

In the meantime, john-q-public folk like me turn to internet sales to avoid further taxation without representation, the nuisance of pressured sales, the tyranny of recorded/monitored purchases, the benefit of lower costs, the joy of less fuel and vehicle maintenance, and the convenience of spending more time at home.

It seems to me that the supporters of this 'fairness' tax come in several boats:  a political boat looking for more taxes, a bitter boat because it didn't get into the internet commerce game before others like Amazon and eBay cornered it, or a marginally successful boat looking to improve margins through legislation.  None of these positions address the core issue - Uncle Sam is squeezing small businesses to bankruptcy.

This 'fairness' tax isn't so 'fair' after all...
