Organizations Offering Summer Camps for Kids in Winder

As Barrow County parents await the end of the school year, they may want to begin planning a summer full of fun for their kids.

One of the many benefits of being the largest city in the county is that Winder offers a great variety of summer camp options for kids of every shape, size and personality.  

As the last few weeks of the school year dwindle, it might be a great idea for parents to begin planning summer activities for their kids.

To help our readers get started, Barrow Patch has compiled a short list of some of Winder’s summer camp offerings:

  • YMCA Summer Day Camp Program at Brad Akins Y in Winder — For students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Touted as the “perfect solution for parents looking for safe, fun, and affordable summer experience for their child”, the YMCA Summer Day Camp Program offers age-appropriate activities that include arts and crafts, physical activities and games, character development and devotions, guest speakers, daily swim time and more — all in a Christian environment. Camp begins May 23 and registration is already under way. The Winder YMCA also offers Summer Sports Camps, featuring baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball, hip-hop and cheer.   • Camp Twin Lakes at Camp Will-A-Way inside Fort Yargo — Camps for kids with serious illnesses, disabilities or other challenges. This summer at Camp Will-A-Way will feature Camp Strong4Life for lifestyle and weight management, Camp OO-U-LA for kids who have experienced a burn injury, Camp New Hope for kids with sickle cell disease, Camp Big Heart and Camp ESP for kids with developmental disabilities, Camp AcheAway for kids with juvenile arthritis and related diseases, Camp Dove for kids who are deaf or hard of hearing, Camp High Five for kids affected by HIV, Camp Journey for kids with autism and so much more.   • Winder First United Methodist Church — For students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Summer day camps from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. featuring weekly themes, field trips, crafts, sports and fun. Camp runs May 29 through July 31. For more information, call 770-867-4594, ext. 15.
  • Summer Days at Fort Yargo — Day camps for various age groups featuring four days of camp where kids will learn about wilderness survival, interact with native wildlife, play games and spend time with their peers. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Sponsored by Friends of Fort Yargo and presented by Earthen Excursions. For more information, call 678-963-8891.
