5K Run Raises $13,500 to Support Victims, Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Hundreds of runners participated in Saturday's Peace Place 5K to End Domestic Violence, held at Fort Yargo State Park.

Hundreds of runners participated to help raise $13,500 in Saturday’s Peace Place 5K to End Domestic Violence, held at Fort Yargo State Park.

The money will support helping victims and survivors of domestic violence.

“Events like the Peace Place 5K to End Domestic Violence serve to raise awareness for domestic violence and for Peace Place in our community as well as to raise funds to help change and improve the lives of survivors of domestic violence,” said Dr. Nikki Tobias, Interim Executive Director, Peace Place, Inc. “We’re thrilled to have the support of so many members of the community including our sponsors Walton Development and Management, First Baptist Church of Jefferson and Winder Auto Parts (NAPA).”

Platinum sponsors for the event were Walton Development and Management and First Baptist Church Jefferson. Winder Auto Parts (NAPA) was a gold sponsor. In addition to their sponsorship, Walton Development and Management contributed another $5,000. Staff from Walton participated in the event and presented a check at the end of the race.

“We’re proud to support Peace Place and the important work they are doing in the community to combat and end domestic violence,” said Peter Langham, Planning and Development Manager, Walton Development and Management, Southeast, “It was a great to see so many people visiting Fort Yargo State Park today in support of Peace Place.”

About Peace Place

Peace Place, Inc. is the local domestic violence program and shelter serving Banks, Barrow, and Jackson counties.  Peace Place opened in 2000 as a safe shelter to assist women and their children as they rebuild their lives, independently and free of abuse. Services are confidential and free of charge. Its  philosophy is simple – break the cycle of domestic violence. Since inception, Peace Place has provided safe shelter for over 1,800 women and children.
