United Way of Northeast Georgia and The Classic Center will be hosting the 2012 Athens Kids Expo. The third annual Athens Kids Expo will be held on Saturday, February 11 at The Classic Center from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Expo is a day of family fun that will include an Inflatable City, Miniature Golf, a Petting Zoo, a Football Toss, a Soccer Area,  Kid Do-it-Yourself Workshops, special guests including Woody, Elmo, Mickey Mouse, Spider Man, Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants and Super Mario, as well as different Disney princesses. There will also be a Magic Show, Aerial Performances by Canopy Studios, a puppet show and dance performances by Encore Dance Theatre. In addition, Athens Clarke County Police Department will be in attendance providing Child IDs and Jr. Police Officer Stickers. The show will give parents and children an opportunity to get face-to-face with local businesses and sponsors while supporting early childhood literacy. Tickets are $5 at the door (kids age 2 and under are free) and money raised by the Athens Kids Expo will be used to support United Way’s Wee Read Program that sends every registered child from birth to age 5 in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties one free, age-appropriate hardback book in the U.S. mail each month.

Mr. Clown from Up N’ Away Balloons and the Chic-fil-A Cow will be making an appearance. It’s going to be a fun filled day packed with plenty of fun and entertainment for the entire family!

I grew up in a Winder where doors were not locked and the town was full of folks shopping! SometimesRead More a moonshiner would get caught or the parking meter would run out of time and one would get a parking ticket by one of the three cops in town! Now I keep a weapon handy because of voices and footsteps on the pavement at night! Where are these people coming from and going to after one o'clock in the morning? Why does it take so long for a policeman to show up after a call is made,if they show up at all? I've watched nice homes on my street turn into dumps. They are rented by owners who are only interested in the money and not the quality of people who are renting. Yeah, I keep a weapon and it's loaded for a thief or prowler! When seconds count a cop is only several minutes away,if at all!
