Winter Storm Watcher

Ongoing weather updates from Barrow Patch's Winder headquarters.

2 p.m. Monday — No precipitation to report at this time. Temperature is 30 degrees but according to the Barrow County Airport feels like 23 degrees.

1 p.m. Monday — Still only slight precipitation falling. Ice has coated the mailbox. Roadways are dangerous. I watched a neighbor slide past the first entrance to the subdivision. He made the second entrance but slid rather recklessly into his driveway.

Noon Monday — Very little precipitation is falling now. Skies still look menacing and I'm bracing for freezing rain.

11 a.m. Monday — Sleet is beginning to fall on the more than 4 inches in my yard. Skies look menacing. Temperature at the is 30 degrees.

1 a.m. Monday — Final update for the night. Holding steady at 4 inches and still seeing some light sleet.

Midnight — Four inches of snow has fallen in my yard and it now appears to be sleeting. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature is 28 degrees.

11 p.m. Sunday — Either my measuring skills are off or 3 inches of snow has fallen in my yard since 9:45 tonight. And flakes are still coming down fairly heavily. The National Weather Service is predicting a total of 2 to 4 inches of accumulation of snow and sleet overnight for the Barrow County area. Perhaps I've got another inch to go.

9:45 p.m. Sunday — An early update as snow has reached Barrow County. It's falling pretty steadily in my front yard. I have my trusty ruler out and will be measuring any accumulation.

9 p.m. Sunday — Haymon-Morris Road in Winder remains all clear. Lilburn Patch is reporting snowflakes falling in Lilburn, which is about 30 miles from Winder. Snellville, which is a little closer, is reportedly seeing sleet.

8 p.m. Sunday — This storm watching is turning out to be rather uneventful. Nothing is happening. Hourly updates will still be posted until sleep overcomes me.

7 p.m. Sunday — The winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service is now in effect and the only activity I'm seeing on my front lawn is the excitement created by my dogs, who are patiently waiting for that white stuff to fall again.
