Winder Planning Department Outlines Developments and Projects Under Way

The city of Winder has several projects and developments on tap.

Developments either under review or under construction:  

• Dollar General on West Athens Street is under construction 
• Construction should begin within 45 days on the on the corner of West May Street and Horton Street 
• New Social Security Office at East Broad Street is under construction 
• Site plans for Stratford Court, the proposed senior living facility to be located across from the Villas at Winder on Jefferson Highway should be submitted for review in the next couple months 

General projects: 

• — Substantially complete and the planning department conducted a walk-through with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the contractor on March 23 to create a list of items to be completed or reworked
• Winder Downtown Streetscape project — Project is on the Georgia Department of Transportation's letting schedule for late summer/early fall 2012
• demolition project — Demolition is under way 
• — Under way 
• Georgia Department of Transportation Highway 81 gateway beautification project — Under construction
