Single Broad Street Lane Closure Planned Overnight and Wednesday

Parking spaces will also be closed as new water and sewer lines are installed.

Beginning at 9 p.m. today and continuing through 6 a.m. a single lane in downtown Winder will be closed.

The Georgia Department of Labor will work overnight installing new water and sewer lines. Work will continue overnight Wednesday, May 22, weather permitting.

Both nights, the outside northbound lane will be closed from Athens Street to Midland Street. Parking spaces will also be closed overnight as crews work in these areas. Retaining walls are under construction along the eastern side of Ga. Highway 11/Broad Street in front of Locos, Skip's Hawaiian Ice and American Pest Control.

The work is part of an almost $5 million project to rebuild .72 miles of Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping. The scheduled completion date for the project is July 31, 2014.
