Residents of Carl have Much to be Thankful for this Thanksgiving

This small North Georgia town ranks high on desirable places to live thanks to low cost of living and low crime rates.

As the battle to right the national economy wages on and the worldwide media relays the news of increasing unemployment and rising foreclosure rates across the United States, the residents of the small town of Carl have much to be thankful for leading into the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to a report by Sperling’s Best Places, a well-revered data analysis website, Carl’s cost of living is 9.7 percent lower than the national average.

Additionally, both violent and property crimes in Carl rate a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10, as compared to a national average in both categories of 4. As indicated by Sperling's Best Places, violent crime is comprised of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault; whereas property crime includes the offenses of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft and arson resulting in the loss of money or property, but no force or threat of force against the victims is involved.

For a frame of reference, residents of Detroit, Mich., must contend with a violent crime rating of 10 and residents of Fayetteville, N.C., are faced with a property crime rating of 10. Also weighing in Carl's favor, the average household income of $55,378 falls above the national average, while the average income tax falls below.

All numbers, percentages and hard data aside, the residents of Carl are blessed to have a conscientious mayor and town council members who are wholly concerned with the welfare of their residents and the community at large.
