Projects for Dooley Town and Kilcrease Roads Make Preliminary T-SPLOST List

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010. Here are two of those projects.

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 over the next 10 years.

The list will be finalized Oct. 15, and the additional one percent sales tax to generate revenue for the projects will come before voters in summer 2012.

These are two Barrow projects on the list.

  • Project name: Dooley Town Road turn lane at Atlanta Highway
  • Details: This proposed project would add a turn lane at Dooley Town Road and Atlanta Highway.
  • Total project costs: $164,571 to be funded by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010
  • Benefits: This project would potentially reduce the number of crashes at this intersection.
  • Project name: Kilcrease Road widening, realignment and resurfacing
  • Details: The proposed improvements to Kilcrease Road from Ga. Highway 8 and Atlanta Highway to U.S. Highway 29 and Ga. Highway 316 would repair the current asphalt with deep patching, widen the road by 2 feet on both sides and overlay the entire roadway with a new wearing course.
  • Total project costs: $1,115,008 to be funded by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010
  • Benefits: According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project could have a positive impact on the economic vitality for the region, and in some cases possibly for the entire state through improved access to jobs, improved travel times for drivers, increased lane capacity, and improved efficiency and reliability for freight cargo/goods movement.
