Projects for 316 Intersection and Old Hog Mountain Road Make Preliminary T-SPLOST List

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010. Here are two of those projects.

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 over the next 10 years.

The list will be finalized Oct. 15, and the additional one percent sales tax to generate revenue for the projects will come before voters in summer 2012.

These are two Barrow projects on the list.

  • Project name: New interchange at SR 316/US 29 @ SR 81
  • Details: This proposed project would create an interchange at Ga. Highway 316 and Ga. Highway 81. Β 
  • Total project costs: $14,964,86, with $7,200,000 to be funded by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010
  • Benefits: On average, 32,000 cars travel this section of Ga. Highway 316 daily, along with almost 18,000 on Ga. Highway 11. This project would potentially reduce the number of crashes at this intersection. This project would also potentially reduce the higher than average crash rates, as well as reduce congestion.
  • Project name: Old Hog Mountain Road resurfacing (from SR 211 to SR 124)
  • Details: The proposed project would include improvements at the intersection at both Ga. Highway 124 and Ga. Highway 211, as well as widening, milling, patching and resurfacing of the 2.74 miles on Old Hog Mountain Road.
  • Total project costs: $2,800,000 to be funded by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010
  • Benefits: This project would potentially reduce the number of crashes at both intersections, as well as reduce congestion.
