Overnight Road Work to Continue in Downtown Winder This Week

Find out when lane closures are planned and what streets you should consider avoiding.

Georgia Department of Transportation work crews will again be in downtown Winder overnights this week.

The DOT announced work along Ga. Highway 11/Broad Street that will involve the installation of new water and sewer lines. A single lane closure will begin at 9 p.m. and continue to 6 a.m. the next day, Tuesday night through Friday morning. No lane closures are planned Monday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.

Tuesday night, the outside northbound lane will be closed from Midland Avenue to Candler Street. Wednesday and Thursday nights, the outside northbound lane will be closed from Athens Street to Candler Street. These are the only lane closures planned and will occur if weather permits. Parking spaces will be closed overnight as crews work in these areas.

The work is part of an almost $5 million project to rebuild .72 miles of Broad Street from the ground up, creating a stronger driving surface that the DOT says will last decades. Enhancement work includes new sidewalks, curb and gutter, benches, lighting and landscaping. The scheduled completion date for the project is July 31, 2014.
