News Nearby: Football Player Arrested Following Alleged Beating Incident during Game

Officials confirmed Friday that Adam Chumley, 17, of Acworth, turned himself in to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office that morning.

The Northside Christian Academy football player faces charges of misdemeanor battery following an incident during the football game last week.

Chumley is accused of pulling the helmet off a 14-year-old LCA player and then beating him in the head with it. The LCA player, Jarett Briscoe, reportedly suffered a concussion as a result and has been experiencing bouts of nausea since.

“(Chumley) turned up in the lobby this morning and turned himself in,” said Chief Deputy Bruce Wright, adding that as of 2:53 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, the 17-year-old was still in the holding cell at the Walton County Detention Center. “A bond has been set of $2,500, but his family is still in the process of getting the paperwork together to bond him out.”

According to published reports, the incident took place following the fifth touchdown the Lions scored against the Northside team. Northside forfeited the game soon after with the score at 33-0. LCA officials and the family reportedly tried to make contact with the player and his family as well as NCA following the incident, without any success.

Wright said it was a joint decision between the family and authorities to go ahead and file charges against Chumley.
