Student Accidentally Shoots Herself at Grady High — Buckhead Patch

A 17-year-old student at a local high school shot herself in the upper leg Wednesday morning on school grounds, in what police are calling an accidental shooting.

The shooting occurred on the Grady High School campus in the courtyard outside the buidlings.

Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said units responded to a shooting call at the school around 9:40 am.

"Preliminary information is that the gunshot was accidental and self-inflicted," Campos said, who added that the student was transported to Grady Hospital in stable condition, and the weapon has been recovered.

 — Tucker Patch

A movie called "Prisoners" is shooting scenes this week at an industrial complex in Tucker.

Starring in the kidnapping drama are Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, and Melissa Leo, among others.

The scenes shooting locally are set in the fictional city of Conyers, Pennsylvania. When Patch visited the set on Tuesday afternoon, actors and crew were working on a scene in which a young couple walks out the front entrance of a police station and is accosted by press photographers.

Backyard Chicken Supporters Prevail in Cobb — East Cobb Patch

If you live on less than two acres in size and you want chickens in your backyard, Cobb County will at least consider your request now.

With Chairman Tim Lee and and District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell opposed, the Board of Commissioners Tuesday night voted 3-2 in favor of a code amendment that allows Cobb residents to apply to the Board of Zoning Appeals for backyard poultry on lots of that size.

Four Displaced After Tree Falls on Apartment Complex — Buckhead Patch

A large tree fell on an apartment complex located at Terrace Drive, near the intersection of Peachtree Street and Lindbergh Drive, on Tuesday night displacing four Buckhead families.

According to the fire department who were first to respond, high winds are to blame for toppling the tree.  A number of trees fell on Monday and Tuesday due to the combination of rain and high winds, including a tree that fell on a home in the Virginia-Highland area.
