March 6, 1947: Cancer Initiative

Volunteers undertake a cancer awareness initiative.

The Winder News reported March 6, 1947, that a large number of volunteers would begin distributing literature warning the public of symptoms of cancer in an overall educational program to fight cancer in Barrow County. Mrs. W. M. Holsenbeck, county commander for the effort, said that in some communities where intensive educational efforts had been carried out there had been a reduction in the number of death as a result of cancer.
