March 11, 1981: Fake Prescription Drugs

Winder police look into problem with counterfeit medications.

The Winder News reported March 11, 1981, that city police were looking into a growing market in the sale of counterfeit pills. The capsules and tablets reportedly looked almost identical to controlled narcotics and other drugs and were being sold by a number of mail order companies. Winder Police Chief Jimmy Terrell said problems arose when someone tried to resell the pills as real narcotics and the counterfeit drugs had turned up in several arrests in Winder.
