March 10, 1949: Serving Two Vehicles at Once

The city of Winder planned to install parking meters that would save the city money.

The Winder News reported March 10, 1949, that the Winder City Council voted to install parking meters downtown, although the exact location where each meter would be installed had not been determined. The meters purchased for the project were the new Alfco Twin Parking Meter, a "penn-nickle meter" that could serve two cars at once. According to the report, this type of meter would save the city half the cost of a normal meter.
