According to statistics released by the U.S. Public Health Service, the accident rate in the local Barrow County area was relatively high. Statistics showed an average of 12 fatalities a year related to accidents involving county residents, an article in The Winder News on July 12, 1972, indicated. Of those, eight were automobile-related.
