With more than 3,000 likes already to its credit, the discovery of the “Only in Winder” Facebook page is not breaking news.

However, it is breaking down barriers by embracing the quiet, somewhat rural charm of this Southern city. Visitors to the page are invited to upload photos and stories of things one might find “only in Winder.”

Stellar stand-outs at first glance include a photo of a bride in full regalia at a local superstore, a tractor pulled up to an area drive-in restaurant and the driver of a motorized wheelchair cruising through a busy intersection. There is no shortage of images captured from around town of well-groomed mullets, humorous signage and barnyard animals, as well as memorable quotes from posters such as:

“Only in Winder do you see a gas station have a yard sale …”

“Only in Winder do you have to call 9-1-1 for cows in the road …”

“Only in Winder can your teacher remember every generation of your family …”

“Only in Winder do you pass a man on the road riding a cow …”

“Only in Winder do you have to stop short in your car to let a rooster cross the road …”

All joking aside, “Only in Winder” also provides its fans with a town hall forum and information board all rolled into one. Visitors are welcome to post news about neighbors in need, local businesses can promote events and animal lovers can share photos of pets in need of a good home. Bear in mind that since this is an open forum it is not sanctioned by the city of Winder and visitors may come across the occasional unkind barb or posting using colorful language. All in all, be prepared to giggle, people of Winder.
