Georgia DOT to Install Low Clearance Signs at Statham Railroad Crossing

Following reports that a truck was stuck Tuesday, March 20, on the tracks in downtown Statham, the DOT will install signs to redirect low-clearance vehicles to another crossing.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is working with the city of Statham to redirect low-clearance vehicles around the State Route 211 railroad crossing.

Norfolk Southern Railroad installed new concrete panels at the crossing and that work raised the grade, creating a lower clearance for vehicles than before.

The Athens Banner-Herald recently reported , on the tracks at the crossing.

Fifteen signs, including low clearance symbol signs, will be installed to redirect vehicles with low clearance to the Eighth Street railroad crossing instead of the State Route 211 crossing. The Eighth Street crossing is the next crossing east of 211 along Broad Street.

Sign locations have already been identified. The signs are on order and should be installed before April 11.
