Former Barrow County Event Center for Sale

The bank-owned property at 14 Carl-Cedar Hill Road in the town of Carl is listed for $800,000.

Situated at the intersection of Carl-Cedar Hill Road and Atlanta Highway in the heart of Carl, the property at 14 Carl-Cedar Hill Road has had a truly colorful past.

Having most recently served as a local nightclub and hotspot under the monikers “The Barn Dance Hall” and “The B.E.C.” (Barrow Event Center), this site has played host to Super Bowl and St. Patrick's Day parties, concerts, pageants and more.

Residents of the normally sleepy town of Carl were often awakened by the sound of loud music and revelry into the wee hours of the morning. Many of those party-goers may have been surprised to learn that they were actually dancing on the floor of a former Baptist church.

The main building — a fellowship hall — was originally constructed in 1977 to house Carl Baptist Church, a local church in the area that dates back to the late 1890s. As the church grew, two more buildings were added to the property — a larger sanctuary and a gymnasium. When the church elected to change its name to First Baptist Church of Carl and move to a new location nearby at 1588 Carl Bethlehem Road, the property went on the sales block in 2006 for the first time since its construction. The site would later become home to the nondenominational Lifeway Church, which has since relocated to Auburn.

Current listing agent for the property, Tom Hunter of commercial and industrial Realtors® LaVista & Associates Inc., feels a church is truly the superlative use of the property.

“I think it’s ideally set up for a church,” Hunter said. “It’s the highest and best use for the property right now, although it can also function as a community or event center.”

Hunter is representing Community & Southern Bank in the sale of the property, which is listed for $800,000. The property consists of two adjoining parcels on 4.62 acres that are zoned C-1 (Neighborhood Commercial District). The first parcel is comprised of 2.18 acres with three buildings: a 3,714-square-foot building that serves as a sanctuary, a 5,208-square-foot, two-story ancillary building that contains offices and classrooms, and a 18,756-square-foot gymnasium. The second parcel consists of an unimproved 2.44 acre lot containing 260 feet of frontage along Atlanta Highway/Highway 8.
