Five Things to Do This Weekend: Sept. 9-11

From two local festivals to a ceremony to commemorate 9/11, this weekend is packed with events and activities.

1. 

  • When and where: 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Jug Tavern Park next to the
  • Why go: To enjoy music, rides, arts and crafts vendors, sample BBQ from a national cook-off competition and vote for the best for a People’s Choice Award
  • Cost: Free to attend

2. 

  • When and where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center in Auburn
  • Why go: To peruse the fine arts and crafts vendors at this tent festival featuring free mini-adult art lessons, activities for children, entertainment and food
  • Cost: Free to attend

  • When and where: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at in Athens
  • Why go: To discover the wonders of water and learn how you can protect this precious resource through interactive activities and games
  • Cost: $2 per person ages 4 to 64 for park entry fee, while activities at the festival are free

  • When and where: 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Sanford Stadium in Athens
  • Why go: To kickoff the Southeastern Conference football season and watch the Bulldogs challenge longtime rivals the Gamecocks on home turf
  • Cost: Ticket prices vary
