Five Things to Do This Weekend: Sept. 23-25

Head out to the 27th annual North Georgia Folk Festival or the 19th annual Insect-ival! this weekend.

  • When and where: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville
  • Why go: To see stage and screen star Steve Coulter play a quirky Dutch librarian who turns into a globe-trotting detective when he becomes obsessed about a book, 113 years overdue
  • Cost: $15 per person or $12 per person for groups of 10 or more

  • When and where: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the William Harris Homestead in Monroe
  • Why go: To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with re-enactments and celebrate the 19th-century lifestyle with craft demonstrations, including spinning, weaving, flint knapping, plowing with mules, chair caning, soap making, candle dipping, grits grinding, children’s games from the 1800s, music and more
  • Cost: $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 7 to 12 and free for kids 6 and younger

  • Cost: $5 per person, $20 maximum per family and free for children younger than 2
