Feb. 12, 1924: The Georgia Cyclone

A noted prohibitionist makes an appearance in Winder.

Mrs. Mary Harris Armor was set to speak in Winder on Feb. 12, 1924. Armour, who was from Eastman, was a prohibitionist known internationally as the “Georgia Cyclone.” In 1912 she appeared before members of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary during a hearing on a proposed law prohibiting shipment of liquor into dry states. Armor was the third president of the Women’s Christian Temperance Movement.
