Statham Dog Park Opens to Pooches and their Human Parents

The city of Statham raises the doggy door on its latest attraction for four-legged friends of the canine variety.

Four-legged friends of the canine variety have something new to celebrate — the opening of the much-anticipated Statham Dog Park inside Furr Lane Park off Dooley Town Road.

For many months, a wide variety of fundraisers have been held to fund construction of a park devoted to man’s best friend — everything from motorcycle rides and Bingo nights, to raffle ticket sales and a holiday tour of homes. All of that hard work and the generosity of the local community have paid off with the recent unveiling of the park earlier this month.

There is no charge to visit the Statham Dog Park, and dogs and their owners from all over North Georgia are welcome to use it. Pups of every size, shape and breed imaginable will be happy to learn that the Statham Dog Park is open every day from dusk until dawn. A water fountain and “poop bag” dispenser have yet to be installed on-site, so the city of Statham asks that dog owners please plan accordingly by supplying their own water and disposable bags for the time being.

Mark your calendars! To aid in the maintenance of the dog park, future fundraisers will include a rabies/micro-chip clinic on Saturday, April 14, facilitated by Four Paws Animal Hospital's own Dr. Angela Thibodeaux, a “Dog Days of Summer” event at the Statham Farmers Market on Saturday, June 23, and a 5K Fun Run/Walk during the Sunflower Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15.  To view photos of the park and the cute canines that visit it, be sure to “like” the Statham Dog Park on Facebook.
