City Spotlight: Statham

The latest news from city hall.

Dog lovers unite! The city of Statham wants to construct a dog park within the confines of the Furr Lane Park off Dooley Town Road, but they need the public's help. The Statham dog park committee welcomes tax-deductible donations from fans of furry friends and will also be hosting a number of fundraising activities over the coming months to off-set the cost of construction.

  • Golf cart raffle — The dog park committee is currently selling raffle tickets for $10 each, and the winning ticket for a shiny, new golf cart will be drawn at the upcoming Sunflower Festival on Sept. 17. Golf and animal lovers alike can pick up their lucky tickets at . Good luck!
  • B-I-N-G-O — At 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, the dog park committee will host a charity bingo event at the Statham American Legion on Atlanta Highway. All proceeds from this fun, family-friendly event will benefit the dog park.
  • Twelfth annual Sunflower Festival 5K Run/Walk — Join your friends and neighbors at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at to run (or walk) for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the dog park. Both walkers and runners can register online at active.com — online registration is open through Sept. 14, but don’t delay — participation in this event is only $15 if you register by Sept. 10 (it climbs to $20 after that date and for those registering on-site on race day). Applications are also available at the city of Statham website and at city hall. If you pre-register, you can sign the whole family up for just $45.
