City Spotlight on Statham: Lace up Those Running Shoes for the Sunflower Festival 5K

The 5K will take place at Statham Elementary School.

After enjoying a lovely Saturday morning and afternoon of perusing the arts and crafts booths and sampling from a variety of delectable food vendors at the Sunflower Festival on Saturday, Sept. 17, the city of Statham invites you to trade your flip-flops for a pair of running shoes and take part in the annual Statham Sunflower 5K Run/Walk.

The 5K will take place at at 1970 Broad St. If you wish to participate but haven’t registered, it’s not too late. On-site registration will begin at 5 p.m. and the 5K will start at 6 p.m. Registration is open to runners and walkers of all shapes, sizes, ages and speeds — and is just $20 per participant. Afterward, trade your running shoes for some dancing shoes and join your neighbors for some toe-tapping fun and live music on Railroad Street to close out Sunflower Festival 2011.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars. The Statham Sunflower Festival takes place Saturday, Sept. 17 and the schedule is as follows:

  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Arts and crafts portion of the festival featuring food, activities for the kids and more
  •  9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. — Car and tractor show with awards presentation at 1:30 p.m.
  • 6 p.m. — 5K Run/Walk at Statham Elementary School
  • 8 to 11 p.m. — Live music and street dance on Railroad Street
