City Spotlight on Statham: History in the Making

Statham Farmers' Market to celebrate city's history.

On Saturday, Aug. 6, the city of Statham invites residents to take a step back in time during a very special installment of the Statham Farmers Market.

This week’s theme — Heritage Day — will be both fun and educational for the whole family, a great lead-in to Barrow County’s return to a new school year.

Far more than your run-of-the-mill farmer’s market, special care and planning goes into each week’s premise and Saturday’s market is certainly no exception. Paying homage to Statham’s rich and colorful history, live demonstrators will be on hand throughout the event. Folk musician Thom Tollerson will take the stage to provide toe-tapping entertainment while talented spinners from the Lazy B Knit and Spin group spin wool on their wheels and the Classic City Woodturners work their lathes to the amazement of onlookers.

In addition, the Fort Yargo Living History Society will provide blacksmithing, button making, carpentry and firearms demonstrations at the community tent.

As Statham residents have come to know and love this summer during their Saturday mornings downtown – from 8 to 11 a.m., Railroad Street will also be lined with your favorite local farmers and vendors displaying their fresh produce, honey, jams, soap, crafts and other goodies.
