City Spotlight on Carl: Have Your Voice Heard

The latest news from city hall.

One of the terrific bonuses of living in a small town like Carl is that you are afforded the opportunity to have your voice heard once a month at town council meetings.

During last week’s meeting on Thursday, Aug. 18, a handful of residents appeared before the council to lodge a complaint about noise emanating from a local event center. Their grievance did not rest solely with the volume of the noise, but also with the hours to which the noise extended. The council told the group they would take the matter under consideration and revisit the code ordinance as to how late an event can extend. They also suggested that the residents place a call to 911 to make a record of future instances. To date, there have only been three calls against the event center.

If you have an issue you wish to take up with Carl’s Town Council, you are welcome to contact City Clerk Deana Davis by phone at 770-867-1308 or via e-mail at townofcarl@comcast.net to have your name and line item added to the agenda. Town council meetings are held at Carl City Hall at 7:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. In order to be added to the agenda and address the council, you must call or e-mail Davis no later than the Tuesday before the meeting. Next month’s meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 15.

Other issues covered during last week’s meeting included a review of both road and recreation SPLOST funds, a discussion of re-striping Carl-Bethlehem Road and a seal coat of Carl-Midway Church Road in order to prevent future issues and road decline, the adoption of an alcohol amendment stating the council’s position against Sunday alcohol sales and the adoption of a 9/11 resolution recognizing a moment of silence in the town at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the ten-year anniversary and pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks.
