City Spotlight on Braselton: Eyes to the Future

The latest news from city hall.

The undeniable small town charm of Braselton's historic downtown area may have you feeling as though you’ve taken a step into the past.

However, the forward-thinking staff at town hall, in conjunction with the dedicated folks at the Braselton Visitors Bureau Authority and the Braselton Downtown Development Authority, always have their eyes firmly set on the future. This past week alone brought announcements of an upcoming road closure in Mulberry Park subdivision and future holiday events.

In order to repave the round-about that encircles the new Pecan Tree Park at the eastern entrance to Mulberry Park, portions of the road will be closed periodically over the course of the estimated two weeks to project completion. The project is set to begin Sept. 6, so plan your travel in and out of Mulberry Park accordingly. For the latest updates on other proposed road improvements and planned projects — including the Downtown Revitalization Plan — visit the Projects and Initiatives Page of the town’s website. While road improvement projects may seem far from exciting — they are necessary to maintaining the integrity and increasing the longevity of the thoroughfares and byways that wind throughout the town for years to come.

Even before we turn the calendar page on summer 2011, e-mail blasts have been hitting inboxes all over town announcing A Toast to Braselton and Cookies with Santa in November.

A Toast to Braselton is a wine tasting, dinner buffet and auction event hosted at the Braselton-Stover House at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1. Only 100 tickets will be sold to this special event, and proceeds will help fund the Braselton Downtown Development Authority. The Braselton DDA “works to assure the long-term economic stability of Downtown Braselton by maintaining the small town character of the district and supporting the fundamentals that assure Braselton is a great place to live, work, play, invest, and do business”. Individual tickets to this event are available for purchase at Braselton Town Hall for $25 per person, but tables for groups of ten are also offered. If you wish to contribute an item for the auction, click here. If you wish to purchase a table or make a donation to the Braselton DDA, click here.

Cookies with Santa is a beloved and very special part of the Celebrate the Holidays in Braselton event, which takes place Saturday, Nov. 19 this year. Limited to just 30 children, tickets to Cookies with Santa will go very quickly. Hosted in the Braselton Community Room at 2 p.m., kids who attend will enjoy one-on-one time with the big guy himself, as well as the time honored tradition of pictures with Santa, cookies and milk and crafts. Tickets are just $15 per child and can be reserved by emailing Town Manager and Clerk Jennifer Dees. To sneak a peek at other upcoming events, visit Braselton’s events page.
