City Spotlight on Braselton: Early Signs of LifePath

The latest news from Braselton.

Following a buzz that began well over a year ago, the first signs of life are now being witnessed for the proposed LifePath in Braselton.

At the suggestion of several local business leaders, the organization of a Braselton Community Improvement District was completed earlier this year — Braselton’s first CID since its creation was authorized by the Georgia Assembly in 2007.

The LifePath for which the CID was formed will consist of a 1.7 mile multi-use series of paths that extend from Liberty Village to RiverStone Park subdivision along Ga. Highway 211 and up Thompson Mill Road to Del Webb’s active adult community, The Village at Deaton Creek. The goal of this corridor is to connect area residents with local businesses by means of pedestrian travel, including bikes, roller skates, Segways and golf carts.

Since its establishment, the seven-member CID governing board has secured funding for the project with an estimated price tag of $455,500 and has designated Suwanee-based land planning and surveying firm McFarland-Dyer and Associates to design the LifePath and oversee the bid process and construction. As recently as the Braselton Town Council meeting on July 11, the council voted to approve a golf cart ordinance to govern the LifePath, requiring those who travel via motorized cart on the corridor have a valid license or learner’s permit.

Braselton residents are getting excited as they catch a sneak preview of the overall scope of the LifePath project with the installation of a bright white and wide pathway leading up Thompson Mill Road between Ga. Highway 211 and Chateau Élan. This portion of the project is led by the Braselton Visitors Bureau Authority and is funded by Gwinnett County sales tax revenue. Before we know it, golf cart sales will be booming!
