City Spotlight on Bethlehem: Busy Week Leading Up to Holiday Weekend

The latest news from city hall.

Things will be bustling behind the doors of Bethlehem’s generally quiet city hall this week, as two major events take place leading into the holiday weekend:

  • The qualifying period for potential candidates for the office of mayor and two town council seats will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 2. Offices coming up for election in November include those currently held by Mayor Sandy McNab, council members Wayne Ridgeway of Post 2 and Scott H. Morgan of Post 4. For more information regarding qualifying fees and rules of qualification, contact Town Clerk Kathy Bridges by calling 770-867-0702.
  • The Ga. Highway 11 intersection bid opening is scheduled for today, Tuesday, Aug. 30. The bid opening for proposed roadway improvements to relieve congestion at the intersection of Christmas Avenue and East and West Star Streets in the heart of Bethlehem has been stirring up a great deal of interest from local contractors. Once the bidding closes at 2 p.m., and the bids have been opened and read aloud at city hall, the mayor and town council will evaluate before awarding the contract to the lowest, responsive, responsible bidder. The scope of work shall be substantially completed within 180 consecutive calendar days from the date of the notice to proceed.

Please note: B will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. This month’s town council meeting — normally held at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at city hall — has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 12.

Check back every Tuesday for a new City Spotlight on Bethlehem.
